Aaah, so Hillary may have been responding to a child

at the time so the context was not initially in response to Donald.

fair enough.

Is Mike Huckabee still running for president?

oops.. sorry. that was supposed to be a search.

Donald Trump probably thinks you're disgusting.

File under: Donald Trump probably thinks you're disgusting.

Bernie Sanders is not intimidated by Donald Trump

And his response was the stuff. Thank goodness someone responded exactly correctly.

I like Bernie Sanders a lot.

Theory Testing

So you're saying Trump wouldn't have risen to the top in "other economic times"?

The natural leadership hierarchy would have been re-jiggered?

Hmm....

Hmmm....

Well he's a natural alpha and simply doesn't stick around when he's going to lose. But you have to think he's better now than he's been in the past. So too many moving parts, but if you could take today's Trump and stick him in any election season, you can imagine re-creating this political hurricane against any competition.

He is a buzzsaw. He is a political island in the sense that he has no political allegiances that are higher than his own individual political success.

He probably would have sent George W. back to the bottle.

He wouldn't have invaded Iraq, correct? I know that would have been a significant improvement. The housing bubble might have been twice as large, however.

oof. just saw Hillary's hesitating statement in response... about how we shouldn't allow bullying... and it looked like she was trying to recall the powerpoint slide with the bullets as she responded.

ro

botic.

Alphas and Betas

The challenge for the other candidates is to get others to see them as Trump's boss rather than the other way around. So far he's the only one who's demonstrated natural alpha leadership, and the resulting hierarchy appears as natural and inevitable as you'd find in any wild pack.

When he is "attacked" by others, the overwhelming sense you get is that the other candidates are almost literally asking him for permission to maybe say something he might disagree with.

His opponents treat him with reverence. The presumption is that he is going to turn to them and say, "Yaw fiyid!" and somehow, someway, he's going to make it happen and you will be yanked offstage via an astonishingly long cane/hook device.

Angry, dismissive alpha, so far at least, in this particular cycle, has dominated the day. I don't know that any viable opposition can pull it off (a transition to a similar tone. i highly doubt it but sometimes they surprise you), but it might be their last and only hope.

The narrative right now is that for every day spent fundraising and schmoozing by a garden variety politician, Donald Trump is rallying with thousands, building 6 hotels and making deals with China to help kill Isis while convincing Mexico to finance a wall along its northern border.

In difficult economic times, impolite, productivity-focused leadership, perhaps entirely justifiably and/or "rigthly" so, rules the day.

When people are in a hurry to get to work, they often drive like real assholes.

Donald Trump needs a timeout.

We expect him to rage about for the first few minutes before calming down.

He can come out when he's ready to apologize and promise to do better going forward. He will be allowed to provide mitigating contextual factors like recent attacks from the recipient in this case but only during the penalty phase.

Hillary should start treating Donald like a little boy. She should start mothering him. Protecting him. Sheltering him. He seems frightened. And angry.

"Let's Chat!"

Doubling Down

it's more than that. this statement, "it's disgusting," will cap his support longer term. it was a stupid statement that reveals an ugliness that is deeply off-putting to decent people.

i think this was the moment.

so you think i'm simply a contrarian investor?

maybe.

Write the books now. "The Moment The Genius Killed His Campaign".

I'll get you started.

What was he thinking? What could he possibly have been thinking? Why not keep the attack vague? Why go there?

The questions had been asked before, and had been proven misguided. The run of success had gone to his head, and provided the opportunity for some deep-seated issues to bubble to the surface.

Do you want him answering the call at 3 AM?

Do you want this man making difficult choices?

...

I mean yeah it's a shitty book but we're not writing for awards here. We're just paying bills.

Back to the race, if the rest of the field dropped out and their supporters coalesced around one of the milquetoast replacement candidates (Jeb? lol.. shudder. if it's a pendulum,  and politics is often the swinging of the pendulum out of revolt against the current choice, and donald is on one end, jeb could be said to be on the other in many ways), perhaps they could have a chance to defeat the donald. That would probably have to happen prior to donald's first win or it could be too late.

donald walks away with the greatest ad campaign of all time.

Yeah, Don't Bother

yeah so i watched ted 2 last night.

well, i watched most of it last night. woke up this morning to watch the last 15 minutes.

after it was over i switched over to check out the morning chatter.

cnn had another rather nice piece where were discussing donald trump's absurd comments from yesterday (don't say bathroom, the word itself is disgusting) and how nothing he says ever hurts his candidacy. the quality part of the piece was that they drew effective parallels beteween the psychology of trump supporters finding ways to rationalize their choice with the behavior of hillary supporters doing the exact same thing.

then i checked out big head and the gang and they were laughing hysterically about the absurdity of it, and adding their own comedic take to the situation. i found it a wonderfully linear continuation of the Ted 2 mindset/sensibility, including and even especially with regards to the particular statement trump had made.

and then, on big head within 2 minutes of tuning in, perhaps within one, there was a

apollo creed reference at 6:17

...

and again, 6:18 ...

...

then an explicit "ted" reference at 6:19. the reference was to cruz of course, but still, and i mean this entirely seriously, it was the choice of clips for lindsey graham's exit from the race.

your odds on that, sir?

file under: delusional science's siren call...

.... i told you not to bother.

as for ted 2 yeah check it out. funny stuff. and as for the effect of the comments, the chattering consensus, having now come to fully embrace donald's superiority to their own, and having concluded that even this statement will not hurt him, i would suspect it will to the tune of a near-term 5% hit, including the permanent, unrecoverable loss of 1-2%.

that said, there's still about 30% left up for grabs, so long-term it's probably a non-thing. i'd give a quick apology if i was donald. a standard one like he's done before. no biggie. that will lessen the blow, and even could eliminate it. he's always rather likable, but when he throws the bone of the occasional moment of reflection, it cements the personal connection many people have with him.

now for a horrible thought. imagine this race without him? you already fell back to sleep? i do not blame you, madam. i do not blame you.

Pope Francis says, "Mercy, not judgment."

I'm still waiting for the first time that this appears to be proven incorrect.

The older I get, the less accurate my "it's an appropriate time for rage" detector seems to get. At first glance, that rage seems to be a direct extension of judgment, and fighting the urge for the latter generally seems to quash the craving for the former, or at least to reduce the likelihood of its inevitability..

Good on CSOLPAC

yay!

finally marco rubio does something interesting with the new tv ad.

well i guess the ad is by conservative solutions pac so marco had nothing to do with it wink wink cuz of the laws and stuff but good on that group for putting in a real effort and daring to be a little bit creative.

the ad had tension, direction and cinematography. it was melodramatic and ridiculous. it was essentially tongue in cheek, which is already far better and more interesting and entertaining than the standard boilerplate political ad.

so thank you, csolpac, for adding a little spice to this round's recipe.

a new narrative this morning regards the ending of the NSA mass surveillance program and its impact on the success of the San Bernardino killings

"we need to grow up here.. we need this program..."

devil's like, 'YO!

the program that not only did not stop this attack, but didn't even put these killers on a watch list?'

"well it would help us get information now..."

so there's the tacks... the brass ones... you are arguing that you want to institutionalize unchecked, unoversightable mass government surveillance of innocent American citizens italix even though it will not prevent future attacks but because it may provide quicker (in a matter of hours rather than, well hours) access to desired information regarding phone records than could be gotten through classic targeted warrant processes...?? slash italix.

is that correct? do you agree to that wording? if not, or if you don't understand, i'll make up a new snarky saying and put it right there in yer face.

anyways, point is the plan didn't work here, didn't work with the Boston bombers, doesn't work, costs like a hundred trillion dollars over the next 3 years alone, and fundamentally violates the right of ordinary American citizens to go about their lives freely, without government intrusion and constant tracking and monitoring every day for the rest of their lives.

Slicing, dicing the available data.

Apparently radicalization takes place across socioeconomic and education rates. ie. rich people and well-educated are as likely to radicalize as poor and ignorant.

But most do seem to be tech grads. I wonder if there is a difference in the radicalization rates of

science/technology
arts/philosophy

As always, a grotesquely misleading correlation/causation implication could be inferred from the results, but I am curious if there is any trend there.

The individual who dedicates himself to scientific pursuits generally seems more vulnerable. Potential psychologies include the failure to find meaning in the chosen pursuit, increased disconnectedness…. which I guess could be decreased connectedness…, a frustration that the real world does not operate on (calculable) predictable, causative factors, and an eventual "giving up" on the hope for any sort of satisfying life.

Course the vulnerable in the non-scientific camp would probably be a result of their financial difficulties.

Either way, it becomes easy and/or inevitable for us to eventually come to blame others for our dissonant, frustrating, humiliating existence, especially when we believe(d) we were entitled to and inevitably would be a recipient of, not only our own fair share of, but in fact the lion's share of,

Members of the media need, at all times, to be led, without concern for the vast majority of their concerns as they are unimportant and almost never justified.

Of course I say this only to those leaders who have legitimate reason to believe their own process is superior to the evolutionary result of institutional groupthink journalism.

Ever notice?

affability often carries with it an implied undercurrent of intimidation and ultimately force.

"regionally identifiable affability" probably uniquely so. it may include an invasion of personal space and even a slightly oddly forceful physical interaction (ie. the handshake and the pull/shoulder pat and stare).

it's almost exclusively a purely sex-specific dynamic. men with men. women with women. i guess this is the same with dogs, no? same sex fight, different sex humps?

it's a vortex moment. you can feel it swirling around you. it envelops you quickly, and you know you are about to make some important decisions that you did not expect to have to make. do i want to get involved with these tough guy nitwits or not? i mean they can be a lot of fun, but you know it's a countdown until the next violent, potentially catastrophic moment. and you know it's just a matter of time until they turn their anger towards you.

generally it's best to clam up and be boring. predators are quickly bored by the boring. i mean they often won't even continue to attack prey if it stops running and/or fighting back and just plays dead.

David Biro

Just saw a piece regarding this convicted murderer and the fact that one of the family member's of his victims is pushing for his release.

Ma'am, I admire greatly your ability to forgive and move on, but the man you are dealing with is most likely a legitimate psychopath who has already crossed a line from which one can never return. I disagree with your conclusion regarding his potential for release and I would strongly advise against such a decision.

Some individuals are, in fact, broken beyond repair, even from an early age. The "compensation" for any injustices he may have suffered prior to that point are paid for via extra privileges during his imprisonment for the rest of his life, not by his release back into free society.

Stamped: REQUEST FOR PAROLE/COMMUTATION/REDUCTION DENIED

The devil makes an appearance.

Or at least his advocate.

Sometimes individuals involved in a crime spree, who are aggressively carrying and displaying a knife in a threatening manner, get shot.

1st degree murder should simply not be an option in this situation. I mean it probably has to be in case they get the audio and you can hear him saying, "fuck it. i'm just gonna blast this n****r. i hate his family anyways." If that happened, then sure. 1st degree is entirely appropriate.

But an officer who overreacts to an individual on PCP, acting erratically, committing crimes with a deadly weapon, threatening lives by running in the middle of streets, etc... that's not 1st degee murder. It's manslaughter.

I'm not sure that the ridiculous number of shots changes this to any great degree. Had he been killed by the first shot, it seems to me to already be the same question, and it already seems like manslaughter is the right option. (or whatever allows for like a 15 year sentence). The extra shots, perhaps, add *something* to the charges, including desecration of a corpse at a certain point, but the entire "decision" still took place in a manner of seconds in an incredibly stressful situation with a known dangerous individual carrying and brandishing a weapon (he pulled out the knife just as he got close to the cop cars).

Guess what, black America, just like white America, but at a higher percentage in your case, some of y'all are just stupid, violent morons who do things that get people shot. That's "people", not just black people. In an interview on CNN where that woman journalist, (Camerota perhaps? does she wear above the knee skirts? i hope not. she apparently has actual talent) does an excellent job of confronting the interviewee with police shooting statistics by race, at which point the Black Lives Matter proponent immediately states that he doesn't believe it's primarily a race issue, but first and foremost a neighborhood policing issue. He did well in that moment, but the true test is whether he offers up those inconvenient truths in other contexts or not. Given that he did not do so in this instance, I am 100% sure that he never has, and never will when he's in a room with an audience that is ignorant of such things. That, of course, is the true test of a man.

Be careful how you play this one. I always expect mobs to get the vast majority of things wrong, so it's not like I'm expecting any better from you, but I'm letting you know that we are all always in danger of crying wolf too many times.

Come part way on this. Say "I can see how things could get out of control in this situation. He was acting crazy and pulling out a knife in the middle of a police chase. He was doing things that are very dangerous, and he looked ready to try to make an aggressive move at any moment. He was possibly only seconds away from attacking and being shot regardless. But the way it was handled was just not right. It just can't be allowed."

Ultimately stay focused on the only thing that really matters, because it's the only thing you can really change - police video and the policies regarding such. It's not up to you to decide how anyone will feel about you. Don't spend time on that wasteful exercise as a movement. Your movement is a follow-up to the video recording movement already well underway and the closer it stays to that core message, the more effective it will be in ALL areas it is concerned with.

Unless you are more concerned with personal recognition than actual progress, in which case, blab away and cause as many problems as possible for innocent local residents who are probably already on your side. Go ahead. Do it. Might feel good, right? dooooo iitttt....

The Wonders of Wonderful Cultural Differences

(paraphrasing) "it's like "Christopher Columbus discovering the new world".. we've been here doing this same thing for like six years. now all of the sudden the people seem to be noticing."

Perrrrrrrrrrrspectives.

Larry Bird never wanted to be a complete player.

He was content to be strictly a long-distance shooter and wasn't willing to put in the work to do it all. He never got better at the other parts of the game, and never spent hours every off-season working on a specific new skill to bring into the next season.

One-tool Larry they still call him to this day.

Bobby Orr was content to be simply an offensive defenseman. He never concerned himself with playing an all-around game including dominating and punishing defense. He never bothered to block shots or play injured or anything like that. Nah.

One-tool Bobby was selfish that way.

Tom Brady never had a driving passion to work harder than everyone else, year after year, to understand the game and be better prepared than everyone around him, to set an example for the entire team to follow. Nah, he was always most concerned with photo ops on game day, including during the game. All he could ever do was throw a dink-and-dunk to the back.

One-tool Tommy.

DH'ing is, at best, taking extra batting practice. Have you seen the clips of DH's goofing off as they "practice" playing first base? Hur hur!! look at me!! i iz unprofessional clown throwing underhand so not to hurt my pretty shoulder. But I iz so funny! look at me smile!

Wheat from chaff moment here. Wheat says no full-time DH in the Hall as it's not a real position. Chaff says yes, while still arguing that PEDs "can't help you hit a baseball".

At the very least, hopefully this is the end of the "which of these things doesn't belong" question. The answer is objective and obvious.

The advantages of being a DH

are similar to the advantages of using PED's.

You understand that, right, dummy?

Change the rule. Put restrictions on the position, put a little exhibit in the hall to show the best of the age of full-time DH's and then end that horrible experiment and get back to a legitimate athletic competition rather than a home run derby.

In that same exhibit include a piece describing why the position was ended as a full-time position by explaining that DH'ing is not really playing baseball and no one should ever be confused by that again.

The point is that learning is (can/will be) a video game.

And everyone prefers video games to real life when "close simulations" are available.

Never is this more true than in learning. (no more erasing. no more mistakes. no more sick days, etc. you know the drill. the whole "you're obsolete compared to robots thing")

Society needs to harvest the natural human tendency towards free and peaceful association, probably above all else. This will require safe places for all to escape to. There is no getting around this.

Ben Carson's grasp on history,

even his own, seems somewhat dubious. In fact, he almost seems to not value the concept of a historical record as a general rule. In an internet-age, this is a bold and creative approach.

Factory schools are pressure cookers.

Five years after they are essentially eliminated as we transfer to individual learning, we will look back on the mind-blowingly destructive environments we have been conveniently dumping our children into for hundreds of years and shake our heads.

No, it has nothing to do with "public" vs "private". In both cases we throw our children to the wolves and demand that they behave like lambs while simultaneously supposedly trying to learn. When they instead begin to act like wolves themselves, desperately trying to find a way to survive in their environment, we medicate them.

Funny shit.

When the factories are gone, the medicines and disorders (add) will disappear behind them. (they only exist as a means of justifying the social structure of the factory school). Of course, so will the mass shootings but one would immediately assume that's a simple result of the, you know, lack of full classrooms to target. But that's not the point. The point is those kids won't feel that rage, because they won't be facing yet another day, month, year, or multiple years of daily humiliation and struggle for social survival in the jungle of factory schools.

When dogs are on leashes and forced to be in close proximity to one another, they are far more aggressive than when they meet up off-leash. You can continue to pander to college students and pretend like they are above such dynamics but that would be embarrassing so don't do that. It's just as gross, but it's sometimes less destructive because there is more individual freedom to escape. Unfortunately there is also the finality of "life after school" facing them, which is now a complete unknown because they've been taught to believe (or come to believe by virtue of it being their entire environment) that the opinions of all these other people are the most important thing, and they've been rejected by that group, so their built-up frustrations now hit a brick wall at the "end of the road they've known". (lost the plot a bit here... just gonna leave it...)

When you prevent a child from using his natural inclination to escape from destructive, dangerous situations, you begin the process of instituting lifelong helplessness and mental illness in that child, and guaranteeing he/she will never reach his/her "potential".

Your forced sociability kills children.

But don't worry about it. You're a "good person" with "good motivations" and that's all that matters.

Saturday, November 7, 2015

Bi-lingual anthems are beautiful.

Perhaps it's time we made ours one.

So Ben Carson is taking a different tack.

While all candidates use the media as their B, as needed, most have already shmoozed their way into the sycophantic journalists' hearts. The media already wants the other candidates to like them. Their (the journalists) motivations are, therefore, mixed to some degree.

In Ben's case, that is not the case. They don't really like him so they don't really care about lost 'access'. They'll most likely focus significant amounts of energy directly towards destroying him.

So this is a different dynamic, and will be an interesting test case for the universe of benefits or dangers that can come via attacking "the media".

The calorie counts on menus, which changed my behavior forever the very first time I read them at fast food restaurants, apparently have not affected the eating habits of the vast majority of customers. So if McDonald's really is struggling, it's not because of the calorie counts.

And I may have misinterpreted Ms. Bareilles' lyrics to be a demand of her s/o, rather than a more generally uplifting sentiment expressed towards those who may be hesitant to shine.

So calling you a bitch was probably way over the line.

For that I am sorry.

i disagree.

no, jerome, i do not believe the "black lives matter" movement had any impact at all, and i think this sort of pandering does more harm than good.

that one group is yelling while another takes an action does not mean that the  yelling group caused the action or outcome.

the people who started this movement and fought through when the going was toughest were the individuals who refused to put down their recording devices in the face of overwhelming intimidation until the courts of the land clarified the behavior's legality. they had nothing to do with black lives matter. the black lives matter movement is a product of the fight that had already been fought to expose the behavior in as close to an objective way as possible (no, you are not objective).

they are the ones who started it, but even they don't really deserve any "credit".

the movement actually came about simply because of the availability of cell phone video. nothing more. we can now watch as the parasites come in to take credit and to corrupt what has so far been a phenomenally righteous development.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jerome-karabel/police-killings-lynchings-capital-punishment_b_8462778.html

the ENTIRE movement is about the right to film. anything that comes after that right is established is a consequence of that first victory.

"Play It Cool" is actually pretty neat.

Rather funny. It's dripping in romantic comedy-ism but is worth watching regardless. It feels like an early effort by someone who will have many hits. Quite funny and retains, or more accurately regularly revists, the pace, tone and sensibility throughout. In other words, it doesn't completely forget itself as it goes.

Some songs are played/heard with perfect frequency.

Tupelo Honey is my favorite Van Morrison song, and is one of those songs that is played/heard the perfect amount. I don't believe I've ever turned it off when it's come on. That's how you know.

ahosxtb

i was thinking about getting rid of the 'aho' because it's completely redundant and can be assumed, but the bare station name seemed too much like a straight-up ad so i'm not making that change, at least not right now.

Litmus Tests

Is there anyone who is not in love with Alison Krauss? Boy, girl, old, young? Anyone?

Not sure I'd really trust anyone who is not.

Home to first in like nothing flat.

My dog and I happened to be walking today and we decided to take an off-leash run around the local fenced-in baseball park. We begin by making a lap around the outside edge of the park, alternating between racing each other and play chasing. We finish the lap and come back towards home plate, when doggy suddenly notices there are some large puddles in the infield. Most noticeably there is a large one near both home plate and first base.

He sees the puddle, and there is a fraction of a second of recognition before he SPRINTS directly into the water and begins splashing around exactly as you might expect an individual to do when he is having just about the greatest time of his life. He plays in the home plate puddle and challenges me to join him. He pretend charges me and then runs back to the home plate puddle and continues to frolic...

Then... he stops... as he often does while calculating the next move... He glances at the first base puddle and is OFF WITH A FLASH.... sprinting directly down the base line at top speed.. heading for that first base puddle.....

but he doesn't go directly to the puddle, which is offset a few feet to the left of the actual base.

instead, he sprints directly down the line, directly towards the base...

as he approaches the base he LEAPS... a perfectly timed leap on the very last step, landing on the base and then using the base as a springboard to propel himself into the nearby puddle.... where he continues to frolic and invite me to join him.

i just laughed because i knew it was yet another one of those moments that i'll be thankful to have been involved in. there are several every single day.

now, did he know it was a baseball base and the game involved sprinting from home to first?

well, he has watched some baseball, and he's very, very smart. but even so, i doubt it.

i find it funny enough that this puppy loves to play and frolic in dirty puddles on baseball fields, and loves to run from home plate directly to first base instead of going directly to the next puddle he wants to play in, simply because the base is a fun, soft cushiony thingy from which to jump into the nearby puddle.

that's funny enough, and if you doubt that he knew beforehand both that it was something he wanted to do, and that it was something i would find funny, well, all i can say is i truly think you're wrong.

GOOD BOY, episode something.

"Lost River" is a dark, bizarre and interesting trip.

Liked it. Certainly found the sensibility interesting and much of the acting was top notch. Interesting directing and music.

Interesting film.

Gosling, huh? Already a more interesting director than Ben.

Not guilty by reason of Chinese software hacking.

Not my fault.

My brain's behavioral management software got hacked by China.

Not guilty.

I hope that

individuals who feel that police officers are or can be victims of unfair assumptions and accusations based on small snippets of evidence potentially taken completely out of context, also are able to see that police (at least sometimes, maybe? i mean, we can agree maybe it happened once? no? well that seems unreasonable) are guilty of engaging in the same sort of destructive, presumptive, biased projection of force onto others.

because that's a significant part of their job, and it's as unfair to the victims of their unjust application of force (NAY!!! NAY i say, it's even moreso) as these new cell phone-based moments and the accompanying fallout are to police.

so like, yeah, you might have a point, but you also see how this relates to you, right?

and then you look for a moment of (potentially fairly overwhelming, but not likely) realization. if you see none, you know for sure what you're dealing with, at least for the foreseeable future. if you see such a moment, you then may go on to decide the degree to which the moment has promise as the motivation for lasting behavioral change. most of the time it will have little to none. then your really left deciding what your own abyss looks like, and will look like in the future. will it look like "tried to do the right thing, even when no one was looking" or will it not?

It's time for a "No Lines" movement.

There is no need for lines any more. Shit's synchronous. Everything should be asynchronous. Lottery + asynchronous lines = no lines.

ie. just call me and let me know when it's my turn. meanwhile imma be over there doing that thing that is more interesting than the standing still thing. peace.

The Essence of the Oat

i always kind of feel bad when some of the oats get trapped in the package, never to fully realize their potential as delicious, tummy-warming oat-meal.

i feel the same way about the lost coffee beans.

moment of respect for the lost.

The Siren Call of Human Sociality

essentially you end up defining yourself in terms of social judgment scales. those scales are nearly entirely meaningless and built upon shifting sands. as such they do not represent a stable base from which to launch.

but the body is hard-wired to "like" the rush. i'm not sure anyone is capable of resisting if the call is heard early and often enough, or perhaps simply at the right moments in an individual's life.

it's as all-consuming and addictive as any hard-core drug from the moment they wake until the moment they sleep. as time goes on, the rushes get shorter and the mental toll grows.

such individuals (depending on their current state.. specifically while they are "succeeding") are often as impervious to counter-arguments as a delusional schizophrenic. of course the "delusional" aspect crosses mental illness boundaries. everybody has delusions. delusions are a survival instinct. but some delusions are in fact more equal than others.

the delusion of pleasing the mob in order to gain social status, and the delusion of the reality of a life built on such a delusion (should one be talented enough to make the first delusion survive long enough to "succeed" and even create a family) are less equal delusions than "garden variety" delusions. they are destructive delusions that cause an individual to pass through life without ever taking a moment to truly decide how he or she wants to live it. instead the person's life is carried along by the social current. it is at all times subservient to the opinions of others.

this seems to me a less equal, even morally objectionable category of delusion, and as such, one worthy of exposing in a general sense. of course, those afflicted should always be treated with compassion and respect. we need not hate the players of this game. we need not even hate the game itself. we simply need to decide if it's a good idea or a bad one and whether we want to make our opinions on that matter known.

The times, they're like, changing

Three years later, they are essentially going out of business.

The Simplest Gesture

when celebrities smile a really big smile in pictures with fans, an angel gets her wings.

the fact that it was the case for me has left a mark to this day.

pathetic? well, sure, but that's a bit of a judgmental term, right? is it one you are comfortable with? fair enough.

nonetheless, it's a really nice thing to do and it makes me happy even when it's someone else's picture, especially when the fan is, like, excessively normal.

yeah...

Marijuana prohibition is a

custom i don't observe.

2 seconds

that's how long the refresh should take to remind you how useless many of your bad-habit time-wasting activities really are. from there you should be able to demonstrate some discipline. generally the bigger challenge is the mind control in the first step. the laziness leads to looking for easy answers which leads to predetermined conclusions and destinations (feeling a void.... there is stuff on internet... stuff must be better than void... void must be filled and void can be filled immediately before i even finish this tho...    but the void isn't filled. it is simply replaced by a new, slightly larger one for which the lazy/tired mind again seeks out the easiest "solution"... and on it goes)..

just for one second, "guess" what you're going to see.

were you right?

does that tell you anything?

does that make you feel any different?

course i'm ignoring the actual first step, the acknowledgement that i, too, may actually have some time-wasting bad habits, and as such am not even close to the perfect person i have always thought i have been, an assumption that has colored darn near every decision i've made, especially in terms of when and how to judge others for falling short of my presumed standard.

but back to the initial point: guess, check, improve. and if at first you don't succeed, simply try again next time. it won't take long.

NO, you can't get violent about it,

but some people have absolutely no regard for others when they are ordering their Mexican food at Anna's.

we REALLY need different lines EVERYWHERE for people like the ARROGANT DAD who loves to play the "in control of everything" authority figure who is in NO HURRY TO COMPLETE HIS RIDICULOUSLY LONG ORDER because he KIND OF LOVES THE OPPORTUNITY TO passively-aggressively bully others in such situations because he's frustrated by how unfulfilling fatherhood is.

and then there are the others who are less particular but just painfully slow.

fixable.

perhaps we'll miss human interaction when everything is a touchscreen, but in the meantime, can we at least provide the option during peak or rush times? because the above-mentioned father with the overly intense attitude and board-like posture who appears eager to engage with everyone he interacts with to talk politics is not someone i want to be around for any longer than absolutely necessary.

but you still can't get violent about it. once you do, you of course become the only asshole on the scene.

I may have said this before

(imhstb)

but why not allow football teams to use team-wide communications in the helmets, rather than just the quarterback and coaches?

it would allow a home team's fans to be more boisterous during a home team offensive drive, rather than needing to be quiet to allow the players to be able to hear each other.

ka it could also allow for a ridiculously up-tempo offensive pace ching

Another angry loner threw a tantrum yesterday

The angry loser left a note and those who read it laughed at it before burning it.

If you're an angry loser thinking about throwing a tantrum, call xyz-xyz-wxyz to be taken to our safe area in the desert where you will be fed 3 squares a day for the rest of your life and you can freely interact with others like you or you can choose our isolation sector in which you have complete control over the frequency and type of human interactions you are exposed to.

No, this isn't some sort of veiled threat. We are simply offering you exactly that which you seek. At this point, you now have a legitimate choice, whereas before you believed you did not. Therefore there will be exactly none who have any compassion for you in any sense.

I got to rock out to Fleetwood Mac as a kid.

good times.

in my day

it was more dangerous to both wear seatbelts and to wear helmets while biking. in either case, the fierce beating you would receive would be a guarantee. the benefits of the precautions, not so much.

and no, the intro drum beats are not accurate. i tried for about 20 seconds and then decided i needed to quit that. is it dangerous to tell children that they should never quit anything? even if their names are joshua? i think that's basically like asking for an autist.

I want someone to be straight up honest and just say

"No, of course I wouldn't vote for a DH for the Hall of Fame. Please. It's not a real position and it's an insult to the game to consider such a thing."

It would be strengthened if they went further, like, "and I say this as a huge fan of the DH rather than having pitchers hit. it's just not a real position and allowing DH's to be eligible for the Hall is a slap in the face to all the guys who actually play the game. I'm especially not going to put in a legitimate cheater on top of that. So no, I wouldn't vote for a DH, and I'm certainly not going to vote for a DH who cheats."

As has been explained, the correction factor for DH's offensive numbers is 0.4, and in some cases (where more injuries are a guarantee) much less. So I may one day be proven a liar. I may have to vote for a DH at some point, because he hits 2,000 home runs and his adjusted numbers would still put him near the top of the game's history in terms of production. But thankfully that is not the case, and it's a much easier decision to keep such fraudulence out of the hallowed Hall.

That "terror coaster" video is awesome.

in a tangentially related point.... no, not really tangential but a distant, weak, uninteresting parallel is that i feel uncomfortable about the above link because it includes encrypted text which could (or, you know, does) reveal my identity, location, bank account number and atm card pin code. it makes me more skeptical of bostonglobe.com. add to that the intrusive drop-down javascript ad on the front page and i'm like 'bleh'.

the timing is coincidental, as i recently got the adblock message regarding the acceptable ads movement and after immediately and angrily clicking the "disable" button upon hearing that the program was "enabled" by default, and immediately becoming more skeptical about adblock's motivations and practices (the dude sold, so all bets are of course off), i have already come to be excited about the movement's possibilities. at the very least, i'm curious as to the results.

so when i went to boston.com with another browser to investigate the generation of the above link, i was immediately put off by that ugly, intrusive ad.

After having given it much thought

I do not put the Eagles (in toto) alongside the rest.

(ie. the GOATs).

I do not.

Such disparities.

Mere days after the Pope's inspiring visit, the world has reverted to form, and priorities seem to be re-seating themselves in their evolutionarily appropriate slots.

There are lots of stupid pieces of shit driving on the same roads as you. Apparently they too are God's children, but they're stupid as fuck and will NEVER behave themselves without constant monitoring. They are PIECES OF SHIT who ruin everything for everyone.

It is not viable for people to live on top of one another as we currently do. It can not sustain. We need space and we no longer have it. We have way, way, way too many people in the world. With this number of people, every one of us is forced to not only deal with but in many cases RELY on some of the dumbest fucks on the planet.

The Pope exists in a world that is not the one the rest of us inhabit. The rest of us must fight to survive because the rest of us are being stalked and preyed upon by the savages.

I almost knew it was going to happen when he was here. A rapid overcorrection in the other direction. I'll find the tipping point again as time goes on, but for now, I'm very comfortable with this approach.

Schizophrenia

is often little more than the giving up of hope for stupid or awful people.

And since that is obviously implying the intelligence level of the schizophrenic, I will state clearly for the record that that is not the actual implication, but merely the incorrect surface level one.

ie. "the giving up of hope for the meaningful and healthy interaction with what are essentially stupid or otherwise awful people."

Old is not equal to wise in all ways.

Partisanship is essentially an adolescent phase.

Sometimes dead air just works

Like at the end of a random playing of jukebox hero on wzlx over the airwaves which is cool on its own merits except for the DJ talking too much BBB ut I have very very little tolerance for any of that so it's not really fair.

You know those harnesses that trapeze artists use? Could you use such a mechanism for transportation?

Limited Compassion... ... ... Very limited.

Rich people who feel lonely should go perform some charitable service without telling people who they are. Of course if they feel the opportunities are lacking they should then fund them and seriously stfu with their bitching forever because the next time they start to feel pouty the above sentence will again be the appropriate response.

or if i want to be a good Catholic, out of respect for Pope Francis, i may instead phrase it thusly:
serving others is the highest calling and has exactly the same impact on everyone who engages in it, from the richest, most powerful people in the world, down to those who have literally never known a day without debt in their entire adult lives.

we serve not ideas. we serve people.

the Pope's tour has already clarified this specific question for me and i am thankful for that.

Eddie and Jimmy are quiet types

they speak almost, if not exclusively, through their instruments. There is something about that that I admire.

Not for nothing but Santana's "Black Magic Woman" is playing as I type this.

Dave Grohl will forever need his Lennon

I recently heard an interview where McCartney was talking about how his ying played so perfectly to Lennon's more pessimistic yang, specifically in terms of lyrical creativity but one can easily imagine a broader connotation.

Grohl's music will retain a very definite one-dimensional quality as long as that is not the case (ie. the missing yang).

There's a primal part of me

My very first final demand

when I pass away (which hopefully is no time soon), I demand that NO ANNOUNCEMENT be made on bookspace ;^|, and I request that NOT EVEN THE SHARING of the information be done via the platform.

In other words I demand a BOOKSPACE BLACKOUT of my passing. I demand any such mention be immediately stricken from the record and that any user who intentionally defies the demand be rebuked in some official capacity.

A single effective level of intentional misdirection, however, may serve as a sufficient level of respect for the deceased's demands (for indisputably well-intentioned actors only, of course). e.g: the hanging of a photo of President Garfield as a display of one's affection for lasagna.

Seals & Croft is one of my favorite

bands about whose name I never had the slightest clue.

SiriusXM rightly features their music on several of their stations including "The Bridge". so yeah, that would be ahosxtb.

Also the first sentence feels like it's all wrong (about whom's? or the entire structure of the sentence), but it feels like the sort of thing that would take me 20 years to untangle after which it would feel like time poorly spent. and yeah, that last sentence might suffer from some of the same sort of dysfunction. it is what it is, man.

it is what it is.

I may argue that

"The Pope Francis Train" in the vein of Thomas may be a good idea.

I do not know if it qualifies as blasphemous on its face. Of course if it does it may not be a good idea.

But if it does not, then perhaps it's ok?

I honestly think I would ride that train.

Yes I know it sucks but it's true.

The only value in great wealth is in giving it away.

Relativity

How would those from the Old Wild West feel about spending a night in Baltimore? or South Chicago? or def? or ghi? or jkl? or xyz?

God's Honest Truth...

i tuned in to the Broncos v. somebody Thursday night football game...

the initial screen showed the Broncos huddle...

i immediately thought to myself, "wow... those lights are so bright the uniforms are like shining... yeah man.. i'm in... forget about my whining from earlier today... or yesterday... forget it man... i'm going to enjoy the snit out of this game...

..

...

LET'S DO THIS!!!!!

...

..

i was ready to dive back in.

i was ready...

however my excitement done were for not.

as they lined up for my first snap of NFL football watching for the season, I saw Peyton begin to do the ridiculous foot hand wag smack clap shake omfghuthuthut too late delay of game coming so instead of getting the delay penalty....

peyton calls timeout....

which of course brought forth my feelings vis a vis that post  (under a different identity)

from earlier today or yesterday regarding the

ridiculousness of the commercials in an NFL football game.

at various points in the season, you will encounter the fourfecta of commercials:

the apparent touchdown, celebration... and commercial... upon returning from commercial...

the extended delay for video review...... and eventual commercial... upon returning from commercial...

the PAT... which goes smoothly... and is followed by a commercial... upon returning from commercial...

the kickoff... which goes through the end zone for a touchback.... and is followed by... really?... yes... really... a commercial...

this is simply unsustainable and in need of immediate address.

i shant be a part of such things. i simply shall not.

Honestly if I can eat whenever I want to

I am a traditionalist.

I don't believe that dh's have any business in the Hall Of Fame. Full stop.

Of course you can have an exhibit (but not plaques) that recognizes their accomplishments.

The fact is, and this is a fact not an opinion, designated hitters are not baseball players. They are mascots. And some of them, not all but some, are complete and total frauds.

Does Trump's performance so far constitute political genius?

To date, I have to say yes.

The funniest part, of course, is that he has violated every stated, established rule, thereby discrediting the concept of "experts" in the field. So that's great and all, but when you look at the political performance itself, the complete enjoyment of the opportunity and experience, the obvious passion and legitimate authenticity, with a hyper-focused message, the quickest of wits, and as he is eager to tell you, great, great energy, and the accompanying results, it's hard to argue that it's been anything less than an all-time performance.

Obama's performance was unique in many ways, but in terms of actual political activity, his was simply a gotv machine process, combined with his obvious genetic political "benefits" (being African American...) rather than a truly brilliant political performance.

Sure, "no red states, no blue states" was a good political line, but his actual campaign performance was mediocre.

It will be fascinating to watch the next generation of politicians attempting to fake the authenticity that is currently rocketing Donald Trump to the head of the pack. They will never figure out why they fail at it, because they never quite understand what authenticity really is. It's a foreign concept, and like a psychopath pretending to be normal, the politician does his best to fool his audience into thinking he/she is a great leader. The legit political star needs not fool anyone. He knows he's a star and is eager to show it in a variety of potentially "challenging" circumstances.

His "product" is his actual self, rather than the crafted image of the average, desperate and pandering pol who believes that "authenticity" is nothing more than a marketing ploy.

The political highways and byways will be littered with copycat trumps who attempt to fake their way into such a successful campaign.

And then somebody else will come along and rewrite all of their textbooks yet again. And again, by that point, it will already be too late.

"'Fear is the heart of love...',

Besides being a horrible song, this line, "Fear is the heart of love" which first struck me exactly as I assume the song's author expected/intended, has since come to me to seem correct, at least in a variety of contexts, perhaps not the original speaker's context (ie. the nun).

this post demonstrates internet brevity and data compaction. to wit:
what song? search the line. what nun? search the lyrics. what context(s)? place elbow on knee and chin on fist.

Step 1. Turn on blinker

Step 2. Apply the brake

The order is non-negotiable. There are certain easy changes you can make in your life that make your life and others' lives better. This is one of them.

Step 1. Turn on the blinker.

Step 2. Apply the brake.

And if you're at a stop light and you are turning, put your blinker on while you are sitting at the light, NOT after the light turns green. I know the idea bothers you, because it might encourage some individuals to take an alternate route, potentially bypassing you and no longer being stuck behind you, but that feeling is a personal flaw you have and one you need to overcome. It's a good thing. You can feel good about doing it, because the road is not a competition, and as long as you believe otherwise, you are a fucking retard.

fucking hilarious. HILARIOUS. COMICAL SHIT in such a horrible tragedy.

officer, rubber and glue, bro.

you first.

i'll assume you understand my point/request/demand.

Is the rhetoric to blame?

Are the individuals engaging in rhetoric to blame?

Or are the individuals who engaged in the prior misbehavior (which led to the rhetoric) and their supportive enablers to blame?

That right there seems to be the question.

In other words, Darren Goforth died as much as a result of prior police behavior as he did because of the existence of anti-police rhetoric.

Of course you could make the case that "as much as" = "not", ie. that was not why he died. He died because some loser was stupid enough to kill him in cold blood.

If Dr. Dre really cares

he will provide those women with so much money that neither they nor their children ever have to work again.

If he has not provided those funds already, then no, he does not really care.

I do not know how much he has provided to this point. I simply know that anyone with more than 10 million dollars in assets who still has unpaid debts from the past is just a selfish asshole and that's that.

True Injustice

Every member of the jury that convicted Jerome Ersland should be charged with the crime of kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment.

Of course the prosecutor is ultimately responsible, and should never have brought such ridiculous, indefensible charges, but the decision to make that final judgment was the jury's. Now a man who, in the absolute worst case, got carried away in the heat of the moment as he was reacting to a pair of armed robbers threatening his property, his life, and the life of his employees, spends every day behind bars.

FYI, that specific black life did not matter. The life of an individual who commits an armed robbery does not matter. You understand that, right? You get it? You totally, totally get it, right? Armed robbery = "you don't value anyone else's rights, and you are willing to put their lives at risk to get what you want, and to 'oops it got out of control and he fought back so i had no choice' kill the victims."

So it's not the robbery victim's job to 'accurately toe the line in defense of himself and others'. The concept is ludicrous. Laughable. Disgusting. Criminal.

Kill armed robbers. Kill them dead. If you have to, edit the tape to hide the part where you actually kill them. Lie. Because the police are not on your side. The prosecutor is not on your side. The public will not necessarily be on your side or be able to do anything about it. Kill the robber. Kill him dead. Check his pulse. Still beating? Shoot him again. Stopped beating? Maybe shoot one more time.

This is an issue that must be forced by some incredibly brave, selfless souls. This must be settled once and for all. Yes, you have some sort of responsibility at a certain point to not continue a situation..... but no, not really. It's the other guy's fault, EXACTLY LIKE IF YOU OVERCORRECT TO A CAR THAT CUTS YOU OFF AND PUTS YOU AT RISK. YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE IN THAT SITUATION, YOU STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLES. YOU STUPID, PATHETIC, DISGUSTING, SELFISH, COWARDLY ASSHOLES. FUCK YOU.

is Native American (Navajo vis a vis the CBS Sunday morning piece)-accented English, specifically when it includes the dropping of the unnecessary 'g' at the end of words ending in 'ing', especially when spoken by elders.

How long until....?

How long until local television news programs involve legitimately pornographic interactions between and among their scantily, sexily-clad or at that point lingerie-clad (or just plain naked) on-screen talent?

"The hottest news in the morning... Fox 25 News..."

That scene where they all stand close together, slightly askew, with tight-fitting clothes and at angles guaranteed to maximize boobviz (visibility of the breasts) is just the greatest.

Then comes the awkward, milquetoast comedic attempt which is met with "the Geist" (the raised eyebrow and otherwise tight-lipped, expressionless face. Congrats on the honor, William). The sexual tension fills the air and all three of the sexy hostesses resist the natural temptation to reach out and caress the hair and bodies of their similarly sexy colleagues....

So the question is, what are the logical and likely conclusions of this evolution?

I say the lingerie phase will prove to be the pinnacle of the genre. The fully nude version will just seem like it's trying way too hard; like the second incarnation of Saved By The Bell.

News on, newsers.

Our looming extinction provides certain opportunities.

Like, for example, a collective "live for the moment" approach to well just about everything.

The droids have already taken over, no?

I mean we just need to figure out the technology for the glasses and then we'll see quite clearly that we are completely surrounded by them.

Beep beep. Bzzzt..

There may be a connection between these two behaviors. Or there may not.

I was never into scary movies.

The experience never really did it for me.

I didn't get what all the fuss was about.

More specifically, what the attraction was.

I also tend not to "watch television news".

There may be a connection between these two behaviors.

POLITICS BLAH

George W. Bush could have been the single most beloved vice president in the history of the United States.

----> insert colorful description of the contrast between could have and did here...

This has been episode #1 of "POLITICS BLAH". It is simply the respectful thing to do to wear a "POLITICS BLAH" pin on your chest if you are feeling particularly political at a given moment in time (or at least to raise a "POLITICS BLAH" sign whenever you feel that intoxicating political rush rising in your system and making its way straight to your word hole).

Yes, it's a bad sign, but..

while listening to Bon Jovi's "Bed of Roses" (shh... it was just on as background) which i hadn't heard in years or probably decades, upon hearing the following section:
Sitting here wasted and wounded at this old piano.
Trying hard to capture the moment this morning I don't know
'Cause a bottle of vodka's still lodged in my head
And some blonde gave me nightmares
I think that she's..(and this is where i thought he was going to say "probably dead")
now if you're appalled, think "Amanda, that's probably not even her real name, dude..." and tell me if it really just comes down to how sexy the speaker is.

God is the Example

all aboard? yes i am on board this train.

Some things still get better the 400th time.

"When The Levee Breaks" is one of those things.

It's a funny thing that

you can believe in something entirely false,

and it's not evidence of mental illness if enough other people believe it.

The converse (or contrapositive, or the contraother thing) is also true.

You can believe in something entirely factually correct,

and it's evidence of mental illness if enough others (available for polling) disagree.

I think it's correct to call this a funny thing.

i think we keep people stupid primarily so that

they will be easier to catch when the time comes.

Replace "Terrorist" with "Stupid Loser"

This seems like a useful evolution. There's probably a plug-in that can do it automatically on websites but other media outlets (tv, radio) should use the replacement wording as well.

A stupid loser with no friends attacked a historic black church today, killing 9 people. The stupid loser was arrested several hours later with a stupid look on his face.
