Taking the fork in the road

where true understanding requires loss of innocence, increased cynicism, and emotional distress for self and/or others,

if there was a sign post detailing the options, which would you choose?

depends i guess. is there still room for hope of any kind? if not, dissonance is probably to be considered ipso facto preferable.

otherwise, i probably personally choose the path labeled truth.

Freddie Gray

why does no one mention that it looked like he was unable to walk before getting into the van?

perhaps the "attempt to injure himself" was simply the desperate flailing of someone who was in incredible pain and was attempting to "distribute" the pain.

in karate, when you are going to the ground, you are supposed to roll and then sort of slap the ground with your arms outstretched. this distributes the load afaict. Gray may have been doing the same thing. the current development of the narrative of "attempting to injure himself" gives me a very uneasy feeling.

he was dragging his legs as they brought him to the van. even if your feet are shackled, you will tend to try use your feet and legs normally, at least at various times. that seems like important "fact"/"interpretation" #1.

If you buy a sofa

from a specific vendor partly because he has offered to refund your money if the Red Sox win the World Series...

that's called "sports gambling" and I will never understand how it took you so long to figure it out.

I'm all for sports gambling, I'm just not for "they're big so they can gamble, and you can gamble only with them", which of course gives them even more of a competitive advantage.

Anyone who can get insurance should be able to use the same attraction. If they have always been able to, fair enough, but the lack of companies doing so leads me to believe that they can/could not, and for whatever reason, Jordan's got an exemption.

I make $400 in a few hours

standing on the corner slinging dope.

But what I really want is a $12.50 / hr job stocking shelves with an annoying boss (whose ass I could swiftly kick) dogging me all day long.

the solution is NOT J.O.B.

the solution is, and CAN ONLY EVER BE UNTIL WE HAVE ELIMINATED THE LAST BIT OF HUMANITY FROM OURSELVES IN OUR TRANSITION TO PURE DIGITAL INFORMATION, F.
A.
M.
I.
L.
Y.

first comes family, discipline, work ethic, morals, and THEN comes

J.
O.
B.

if you disagree with this, GO AHEAD AND TAKE ALL YOUR MONEY AND START A BUSINESS IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD AND HIRE THOSE PEOPLE WHO WERE LOOTING.

Curfew?

I would accept it for a night, and the next night, I'd have my gun at the ready, willing to shoot anyone who threatened my freedom to walk wherever the fuck I want, whenever the fuck I want to.

A curfew is not a legitimate legal concept.

The good and the bad

start with the bad....

i don't want to keep putting a microphone in front of her face for fear that the positivity will be lost.

the good....

that Mom (Toya Graham I believe is her name), comes off almost painfully wonderful in an interview i just saw. you got the legit integrity vibe from the video of her smacking her rioting son, but the interview was rather heartwarming.

I saw the Mayor's response

about "twisting words" dozens of times before I saw her actual quote which proves her correct.

The media industry avoided playing the original quote for days so they could make hay out of nothing.

You're all gross. Gross. Gross.

Baltimore Mayor Vetoed Cameras?

NOT GOOD.

stupid infects so many of those who get involved in the leviathon.

Some people really think......

that we never executed an innocent person in this country via the death penalty. Those people are stupid.

"Sure, I'll support body cameras now I guess..."

"Now that there's an obvious example proving their usefulness... thereby proving my uselessness in any decision-making or judgment process whatsoever."

Thanks to the NYPD guy on Morning Joe for finally accepting the obvious. Fucking idiots everywhere. Corrupt losers who have zero moral fiber.

I have a prejudice against attractive people smiling

I find it difficult to believe anything they say. You can actually see the result of a lifetime of being given the benefit of the doubt beyond that to which they are justifiably entitled. Without being able to rely on their attractiveness to convince others, they are often lost.

Even if that is not the case, meaning even if they are smart enough to intellectually defend their positions, in most cases that's irrelevant. They are not there to defend it. They are there to read some words with an inviting smile that keeps seniors tuned in.

I almost have no choice but to change the channel at that point. I just can't watch.

"These young folks are very angry"

DO NOT GIVE RIOTING HIGH SCHOOLERS INTELLECTUAL CREDIT, STOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPIIIIIIDDDDDDD

HIGH SCHOOLERS CRAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO RIOT AT ALL TIMES FOR AAAAAAANNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYYYYYY RRRRRREEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

THEY WOULD RIOT IF YOU GROUNDED THEM IF THEY WERE ABLE.

"No Date on Video" = Intentionally Dishonest

The business of media is intentional dishonesty and misrepresentation to the degree they are allowed to get away with.

Kids in Baltimore throw like girls

what a bunch of stupid, pathetic, ignorant losers.

An Incredible Story of Survival

Brian Williams narrowly escaped death in the Nepal earthquake and resulting avalanche as he was returning from a triumphant trek to the summit of Mt. Everest.

Undaunted, the heroic Williams (who disingenuously eschews the label and says "anyone would do what I did") also rescued several struggling hikers on his way down the mountain, and even a chocolate lab puppy who was having trouble breathing in the thin air.

His official retelling of the event should be a fascinating read.

"Space for those who wish to destroy"

Her statement implied that "an unintended consequence of allowing peaceful protests was that we allowed space for thugs to destroy."

Everyone who pretends not to understand this is an asshole. Everyone who does not understand this is a semi-intentional idiot.

REEETAAARRDDDSSS LLLLOOOOOSEEEEEEERRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSS LLLLLIIIIIIAAAARRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSS   YOUR BUSINESS (MASS MEDIA) IS STUPID. NOTHING YOU DO HELPS ANYONE. YOU CREATE CONFUSION INTENTIONALLY AS YOUR BUSINESS MODEL. YOU ARE HORRIBLE PEOPLE, AND EVERYONE WHO IS ANYONE KNOWS THAT YOU AND YOURS, AS A RULE, KNOW NOTHING, AND ARE OF BELOW AVERAGE INTELLIGENCE AND CREATIVITY.

IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALLOW PEOPLE FREEDOM TO BE STUPID. IT IS *NOT* IMPORTANT TO PRETEND LIKE THEY ARE NOT.

If your website is going under...

you can always switch to fboock comments and completely revamp your business model to piggy back off of fboock data mining.

I HATE you, if you do NOT block fboock ad tracking.

Well, I FEEL hatred towards you. Actually hating someone is not good. So I love you but I feel hatred and resentment towards you until you block fboock tracking.

Holmes

Loughner

Tsarnaev?

Essentially same?

They'll be like,

"People watched this useless crap? I mean millions and millions of people actually watched this?"

or,...

perhaps,...

they'll be like, "I can't believe how little has changed in all these years..."

Part of the problem

is that some of the "gooder" officers, similar to the military, have distorted, inflated and grandiose senses of their purpose and morality.

It's hard to see the negative aspects of the reality that you had worked so hard to achieve (or even simply decided that you wanted ;^) ). Same reason so many politicians "are" so awful. They simply view it as their turn, and one that they have earned.. or are entitled to via some other tortured logic.

Do you think

the kids in the Murrah Building were essentially human shields?

How cynical of you, David. Such a disgusting thought. Shame. Shame shame shame shame shame...

Bates looks truly sorry

That matters.

He also deserves some credit for facing the cameras and not hiding his face or even hurriedly pushing through the crowd.

The guy made a terrible mistake. That's all it was.

You should

make the lottery results real-time during the draft.

i mean i'm not sure i think you should, but i sure as hell am curious to see what would happen, and not just in a one-off where pouters would skew.

It's interesting to see the online conversation dry up.

The collective social judgment is in. The popular opinion is that Internet 2.0 was little more than social defecation.

It was pooping on the sidewalk.

Of course there is some truth to that.
